Lefkada is an island of the Ionian Sea and belongs to the island complex of Eptanesa. It is located very closely to the coasts of Western mainland of Greece.
The island is 302,5 square kilometers in extend, is the fourth largest island the Eptanesa complex. Together with the islands of Meganesi, Kalamos, Kastos, Scorpios, little Scorpios (Scorpidi), Madouri, Sparta, Thelia, Kythro and other smaller ones around, it constitutes the Prefecture of Lefkada, with capital, the town of Lefkada. Lefkada, the capital town, consist of 6 municipalities.
Access:
By car: Lefkada island is the only island in Greece where someone can arrive by car, avoiding expences of sea-ferries. This can be done by using the streaming bridge that connects the island with the mainland Akarnania.
By bus: there are daily bus routes connecting the island with Athens (5h trip – 378 km) and Thesaloniki (7h trip – 420 km)
